Viva La Vida

Coldplay - Viva La Viva

Coldplay are probably the most Marmite like band ever , as in, you either love them or you hate them. It's a shame that most people seem to be in the later group.

It's the general reaction to them that gets on my nerves, yesterday one of their new ones was on the radio, I said to my brother that it was a new Coldplay song and he turned off the radio.
If he didn't know it was Coldplay he would be okay with it.
But as soon as he knew it was Coldplay he immediately disliked it.

What's with that?

When it comes down to it, what makes a band good is their image, lyrics, and - most importantly in my opinion - their music.
But, there's nothing wrong in their lyrics. Nothing startlingly wrong with their image, and definitely nothing wrong with their music.

One major point against Coldplay is that all of it's depressing.
All I can say to that is this; yes, some of their lyrics are a bit depressing but some of it's uplifting too. Take "Strawberry Swing" from their new album:
"We were walking up to strawberry swing
I can't wait 'til the morning
Wouldn't wanna change a thing"

Or "Lovers in Japan":
"Lovers, keep on the road you're on
Runners, until the race is run
Soldiers, you've got to soldier on
Sometimes even right is wrong"

And another thing that I've got a problem with is how they are talked about on the radio, and I quote:
"... Coldplay there, as dull as ever."
That was on local radio, oh sorry, your the biggest name in music review this side of ...what ... Leicester ... are you? Shut up!

Erm...

How do you anchor images?
'Cos, somehow this:
[a href="http://tinypic.com" target="_blank"][img src="http://i27.tinypic.com/ny8j9s.jpg" border="0" alt="Coldplay - Viva La Viva"][/a]
(With the greater than symbols instead of square brackets)
Doesn't work.

Thanks

Hmmm. I think I'll have to disagree

Sorry, Phil, but even the most rabid Coldplay fan will have to admit that their latest output is stunningly dull.

And this is coming from someone who thought X&Y was fantastic, and classes their headlining slot at Glasto 05 (i think) as one of the top 10 shows I've seen.

For fucks sake, the whole thing starts off with a 3 minute instrumental. That's going to get most of the nation nodding off before they even get started! The rest of the songs (with the possible exception of Viva La Vida) are turgid, monotonous bollocks.

Don't feel you have to cling to a band out of loyalty for the entertainment they've given you in the past. Shite is shite, no matter who releases it. Do yourself a favour, bin Coldplay's latest and pick up something a bit more interesting (Something by the Wurzels, maybe?)

madbloke | 13 June, 2008 - 09:31

What about...

What about "Lost!", or "Yes"?
They're not monotonous.
Neither is "Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love".
It's much better than most of the other crap out at the moment.

Phil112 | 13 June, 2008 - 15:00

Lovers in Japan?!?

That's one of the most tedious things on there!!

madbloke | 16 June, 2008 - 12:51

It isn't tedious.

How the hell is Lovers in Japan tedious.

Phil112 | 16 June, 2008 - 14:56

te·di·ous

te·di·ous (td-s)
adj.
1. Tiresome by reason of length, slowness, or dullness; boring. See Synonyms: boring.
2. Moving or progressing very slowly.

Bloody hell, man! Have you even LISTENED to it?!? I'll defend bands I like, but not to the point of foamy-mouthed madness! The song goes nowhere, plods along, and has no real hook - hence, is tedious!

Still, looks like we'll have to agree to disagree. Each to their own, I guess.

madbloke | 17 June, 2008 - 11:05

O.K then...

Agree to disagree.

The only 2 decent tracks on

The only 2 decent tracks on this album are the 2 that have been played repeatedly for the last week (Viva La Vida, Violet Hill). No wonder non of the other tracks were ever played coz the rest i skipped through coz its dross. Dont get me wrong their alright......but thats all there is to say about them....alright.

As for this....Nothing startlingly wrong with their image.......are u on crack? have u seen these douchers?

so to conclude

Lyrics and music.....if all the songs were worth a listen i might be able to comment, so of the 2-4 good songs on each album again they are alright i guess......but yes depressing.

Image - take a closer look at these fucktards......would u go out dressed like either one of them? paint black shit on ya hands, wear bracelets and elastic bands on your fingers...seriously these new photoshoots i have seen this week are not cool man, not cool at all!

I didn't like the French

I didn't like the French uniform thing at first but it does look good.

I could say something like I did above about the songs that are good, but, it's all down to personal opinion.
