Con Vs 100... are you fucking kidding me?
Even though our very own Dr Hamhock managed to win himself a mighty fine prize, it can't have escaped his attention that the selection process is utter, utter bollocks...
I have played the last 3 live events and have been appauled by the obvious bullshit that cunt of a host keeps harping on about in between games how the selection process is based on answering "quickly, correctly and regularly". Anyone who has also played on XBL will agree when I call this for the garbage it is.
For those of you without Xbox 360s and have no idea what I am talking about, Microsoft have been working on a MMO version of the gameshow 1 Vs 100, where you can play for real prizes if you get selected, or are part of the mob when the player is beat. This Saturday for example, if a player beat the mob they would have won a laptop (oooh), but as you beat more and more players, you have the opportunity to "take the money" which are the ficticious molatary equivelent Microsoft Points, used for purchasing downloadable content.
During these 2 hour shows you have a chance to be selected to be the one, or in the mob to compete about 10 or so times. Should you not be selected, you are in the crowd and compete in against a random group of three other people. Just to ensure you attempt to answer correctly, the host keeps reminding you that to have more chance of being selected, you need to perform well. This also ensures that when the one uses their trust the audience lifeline, by associative compliance with their "rules of entry", there is more chance that this will be correct for them
The trouble is, as I'm sure many of my fellow players are finding out, this process is utter bollocks...
It doesn't seem to matter how obvious you make the first question, there always seems to be 20 of the mob that are utterly retarded and get it wrong. This happens every fucking round! I don't quite get how 1/5th of the mob who have supposedly been selected by their skill and answer accuracy, always and without fail fall at the first hirdle with questions as easy as "Which of these is a famous gardening show presenter? - a) Alan Titchditch b) Alan Titchmarsh c) Alan Titchbog".
And to make matters worse, during the live shows there are rarely questions harder than this!
One thing I have found quite amusing is how many times the player has used their "trust the Brain" help, only to get royally assfucked by the round supposed best player. This has also happened the last two nights at the very end of the show where the game seems to have thrown in a relatively "hard" question to try and end the show and both times it has shafted the player in the hot seat. Funny on both occassions.
My tactic therefore for this Friday or Saturday night, is to answer every single question wrong in a vain attempt to join the 20% of retarded players Microsoft seems to throw into the mob every round. Given that I had a chain of 19 correct answers on Saturday night (broken by a nice trick question thrown in for good measure) and on every live show the percentage of players with 100% accuracy is always pretty high, I guessing it will improve my chances!
